CHAVEZ JR BEAT VANDA *IN MEXICO* MAYBE

Son of the Legend Julio César Chavez Jr (37-0-1, 29 KOs) had all he could handle against Matt Vanda (36-7, 21 KOs) on Saturday night in Hermosillo, Mexico, taking a hard fought split decision in a jr middleweight bout. Junior was in command over the first half of the fight, but Vanda came on strong and it was an exciting toe-to-toe war over the last five rounds. Chavez was totally gassed near the end of the fight. Scores were 97-93 Chavez, 96-95 Vanda, and a preposterous 100-90 for Chavez. "I wanted to knock him out, but I couldn't," said Chavez after the fight. "I'm satisfied with the decision. What can I do?"
